WHAT IS PARASHA?
Parasha/Parashot pl. ( Portion/Portions). The Torah is divided into sections & read on a weekly basis over the period of a year so that as there are 54 weeks there are 54 parshot. Parasha (also Parshat/Parshiot) is the Ashkenazai term, Sidra the Sephardi term. No matter where in the world you go the Parasha is the same in every Synagogue unless its a Chag (pronounced: Khag-holy day).
